Learnt more in a couple of weeks than she has learnt in months at other schools

"My daughter has so enjoyed meeting Nichola and Ginger; having a teacher with such experience who has the patience to really teach and explain everything in layman's terms makes such a difference and means that Ava can really learn how to ride. She has learnt more in a couple of weeks than she has learnt in months at other schools and it is all down to Nichola's professionalism.

Ginger is really a star, certainly not your usual school pony, really happy and engaged and does just what she's asked to do, not what she feels like doing, which makes such a difference.

I'm so pleased we found Engine Common Riding School and really hope this is the start of a long and happy relationship! Thanks Nichola."

Learnt more in a couple of weeks than she has learnt in months at other schools

"Nichola at Engine Common has been so good with our daughter teaching her to ride, giving her the confidence to progress. Even though we have had to stop from time to time because of covid we have still seen great improvement.

Nichola has made learning to ride fun with different activities, dressage and knowledge of horse control and behaviour.

Nichola has a natural way of teaching caring for the rider and for her ponies - it’s a joy to see."

My daughter has had 4/5 lessons and absolutely loves it, she has taken to horse riding like a duck to water thanks to Nichola.

"My daughter has been wanting to learn how to ride a horse for a while so we chose Engine Common Riding School in Yate where the lovely Nichola teaches one on one lessons. My daughter has had 4/5 lessons and absolutely loves it, she has taken to horse riding like a duck to water thanks to Nichola. She has already learnt how to trot and at times is allowed off the lunge rein to walk the horse (Trinks) around the arena. My daughter already has her own horse riding clothes and boots due to the fact that she is loving her lessons so much. Thankyou Nichola for doing such a great job in teaching my daughter and making her feel comfortable in the saddle."

Nichola helped to make me the rider that I am today

"I began riding at Engine Common Riding School when I was eight years old and rode a variety of ponies over the eight years which followed. Nichola taught me to ride independently and concepts of road safety, in addition to developing my flatwork and teaching me how to jump. I also acquired horse care and stable management skills and participated in my first dressage and gymkhana competitions. I met a wide variety of people along the way, some of which I am still in close contact with and became part of the community of the riding school. Nichola helped to build my confidence and spark my true enthusiasm for all things equine.

Five years on I am still riding and am part sharing two horses with a friend. I am currently competing at a variety of unaffiliated events, including dressage, showjumping, eventing and hunter trials. I have also gone on the complete a BSc (Hons) Equine Science degree at Hartpury College. I often return to visit Nichola and some of the ponies who helped to make me the rider that I am today."

Engine Common is truly a place where you can learn how to do everything properly

"I rode at Engine Common for nearly ten years and even carried on to an extent when I moved away to university. I tried the occasional lesson at other riding schools, however, the lessons were never as comprehensive and I did not receive the same care and attention to detail as I got from Nichola’s teachings.

Engine Common is truly a place where you can learn how to do everything properly, from equine care to a proper seat, which is so important but not always taught at other schools. Following such solid teaching of the basics, I learnt to jump and even to teach some of the ponies some dressage technique, as this was what I enjoyed most.

Nichola pushes all her students to reach their fullest potential, knows what she is doing and works incredibly hard. Many of us who rode at Engine Common when we were younger continue to ride now; a lot of people have their own horses and have gone on to do showing, or work with animals."

It’s one to one tuition from an excellent teacher...

“I sent my children to a riding school where they were led around the school on a lead rein for a year and they learned nothing. I transferred them to Engine Common School and Nichola, who taught me as a teenager, and they’ve blossomed. It’s one to one tuition from an excellent teacher. I love the fact that my children are challenged, they enjoy their lessons and are proud of their progress.”

My daughter is really coming on as a rider

"Engine Comman Lane Riding School is a friendly small boutique riding school. In the time we have been going, safety has always been a priority with very well behaved ponies.

Nichola taught me to ride as a child and it is a great pleasure to see the progress she had made with my daughter. Nichola is fantastic with beginners, adopting a calm and professional teaching style. My daughter is really coming on as a rider."

My six year old daughter's confidence has been brought on through learning to horse-ride

“My six year old daughter's confidence has been brought on through learning to horse-ride with Nichola. It is helping her to develop an understanding of horses and she loves Trinks!”
